The Afghan Stupa
Stephen Shucart
In 1987 Central Asia was a place of high adventure, and Geoff Gemini, International Gem Dealer and ex-professional hash smuggler, is tasked with pursuing $1,000,000 of pure gold into war-torn Afghanistan and beyond.
Outlaw doper and ex-hash smuggler Geoff Gemini was cutting treasury-grade lapis lazuli in his workshop in Kathmandu when he was asked to track down $1,000,000 in pure gold that disappeared in Tibet and might now be in Afghanistan. Also missing is the younger sister of an enigmatic Bangkok-based fashion designer. The trail leads from the colorful back streets of Kathmandu's Rock and Roll Raj, through Peshawar - the Casablanca of the Russian Afghan War - and into the the war-torn Panjshir Valley. The gold morphs into a valuable antique, The Afghan Stupa, and the dangerous journey wends it's way towards the fabled Mt. Kailash in Central Tibet, the holiest pilgrimage spot in Tibetan Buddhism.
